True Fall came today

Living in the Low Country of South Carolina

and working from home, the transition

into Fall seems to be the most notable for me.

The day when a beach bum has to put on long pants

marks the true end of Summer.

This is Campbell’s Covered Bridge in Landrum, SC.

It’s the only remaining covered bridge in the state.

The grounds surrounding the bridge are a

county park where you can picnic

or go wading in the stream.

~~~
October has been very warm this year
and we’ve had no change of color in the trees yet.
Happy Fall!!
Out in the middle of nowhere
live the eagles,
and kingfishers,
and herons,
and me!
Every Easter, we go on a nature walk.
This year we spotted a few new
Large Flowered Trilliums
while walking the paths
Unique View of Pilot Mountain
December 28, 2011
North Carolina has a very unique natural feature
called Pilot Mountain, which appears to rise out of nowhere.
Native Americans were said to use it as a landmark
and called the mountain Jomeokee –
The “Great Guide” or “Pilot”.
~~~

This view overlooks Lake Larissa,

a man-made lake in a beautiful setting.

I’m lucky enough to work just a few

minutes away from this area.

Click on the first photo to enlarge and

see if you can find the ducks on the lake,

~~~~~
Click on the second photo to make out the unusual
shape of Pilot Mountain a little better.
~~~

Click here and here to see more photos taken of Pilot and

the view from the overlook at the state park.

The trails at Pilot Mountain State Park are also

part of the NC Birding Trails.

While we were bird-watching

along Salem Creek Trail,

we got the feeling

we were being “people-watched”.
